On April 20, 2011 Prosperity Initiative, HADEVA and Tan Mai Commune organize a seedling ceremony.
The project area covers 100 ha for new bamboo ( Luong ) plantation with 40,000 seedling for around 300 households. All seedling are free of charge from Prosperity Initiative. The organization also opens technical training course for all household in the project.
The aim of the project is rehabilitation of degrade of existing bamboo forest, in order to improve the quality of bamboo forest that can bring more income of bamboo house hold as well as to improve the skill of household in bamboo cultivation and bamboo harvesting.
Tan Mai is bamboo commune with 680 ha of Luong and poverty rate is more than 87.7 % ( new poverty standards), most of household income of this commune are from bamboo so that bamboo forest are important for them. About technical side, since bamboo was planted massively in 1990’s, there is just a few preventative were applied, leading to poor quality of bamboo forest now.
Representatives of the ceremony are from Mai Chau authority, Tan Mai leader and Prosperity Initiative. Besides, there are 1,500 people from 300 households. These dozens of thousand of seedling will help them to bring more income after four years and help Tan Mai covers 100 ha of mountainous area.
The project is one among many activities of Prosperity Initiative in the north of Vietnam. Prosperity Initiative works to develop the global bamboo industry. Prosperity Initiative provides services to businesses and governments to implement new projects and initiatives in the bamboo industry. At this time, Prosperity Initiative is implementing projects in Phu Tho, Yen Bai, Thanh Hoa and Hoa Binh. |
